The Centre of Excellence between Hughes Electronics and London Southbank University to widen its scope.

The centre of excellence between Hughes Electronics and London Southbank University that spawned the WaveWay and Anti-Pim Dust Cap has been so successful that discussions are underway aimed at widening its scope to create a working group made up of industry innovators focussed on all physical layer transmission infrastructure in order to improve coverage, speed and available bandwidth.

The focus will be developing improved infrastructure components in a coordinated manner to provide the UK with the potential to build the world’s leading network. This will include product research, innovation, development, testing and networking.

Richard Moore, Director Research and Development Manager at London Southbank University, said “LSBU is an ideally placed to take a leading role in the venture. We have expertise in electronic engineering, signal processing and radio waves along with expertise in computer sciences. We’re London based, have our own RF Anechoic Chamber, mobile test tower and a comprehensive range of test equipment”

Richard went on to say “It is intended to invite core partners representing all areas of the telecoms industry to join our group, for the first time bringing the technical heads of passive and active transmission component manufactures together with test equipment manufacturers, mast manufacturers, network designers, integrators and service providers to problem solve at all levels. Initially we intend to invite one innovation partner representing each of these sectors to join our group.”
