In a perfect world everything would run like clockwork - trains, boats and aeroplanes would arrive and leave on time, communications would never go awry, machines would never malfunction, companies would receive all their products on a Just In Time basis and all would be right with the world.

It's a far from perfect world however and when the proverbial hits the fan, it takes special people to sort the ensuing problems out successfully. The success of a company then, may be defined in large part as the ability of its Human Resources to solve problems - this is especially true of manufacturing.

Even the legendary efforts of Hughes Electronics were tested recently however when Wendy He, our commercial manager in Ningbo, China, discovered a quality problem with a subcontract order. Noting the order carried our urgent code, Wendy quickly assimilated the facts:
- She needed to put a stop on despatch and order a rework.
- The client deadline was critical.
- An 8 day public holiday was so close that the factory Director and General manager had already gone away.
Undeterred, Wendy took immediate control of the situation, rallied the remaining workforce, ordered a rework and spent the next three days and nights of the holiday at the factory 250 km from home ensuring that every piece made it to the UK in perfect order and Just In Time!
